Start-up PAVA wins coveted prize at pitch event See you in Court with AI solution for elderly care

The second edition of See you in Court took place on June 18, 2024; the Den Bosch pitch event for start-ups with a nod to the court. Six different start-ups were given the opportunity to present their innovative business case to a three-person jury and a diverse audience. With a fantastic prize package at stake, the six participants made their 'plea' in just three minutes. Two start-ups were selected for the final, “the appeal”. After deliberation, the jury came up with the verdict: PAVA is the winner of See you in Court 2024. With this they received the coveted check, which they can cash for one year of legal advice from Banning Advocaten (with a maximum of 50 hours), the Tilaa Talent Fund worth € 10,000 (partly financial, partly in the form of products/services) and a free flexible workspace for a year in a BIM community building.

Upon entering the historic, former Palace of Justice, where See you in Court 2024 was held, the legal nod is visible in many aspects of the event. The start-ups pitch in gowns, the audience takes a seat in the former courtroom and everyone in the room is also called on to stand in front of the “honors” when the jury enters.

“Substantive procedure”

Chairman Rudy van Beurden opened this event, supplemented with a welcome speech by Jan-Willem de Tombe of Banning Advocaten, Maurice Horsten of the BIM and Henny Hilgerdenaar of Tilaa. The audience then took a seat in the former courtroom, where the six participating start-ups were ready to make their pitch with healthy excitement. In three rounds, two of the six participants “argued” in three minutes for their own business case: “the substantive procedure”. The pitches varied; from environmentally friendly solutions, innovative ideas in the maritime sector to high-tech lockers for going out. With the ticking sound of the clock, all six start-ups managed to present their concepts with enthusiasm and conviction. The jury members, consisting of chairman Minos van Joolingen, Arjen Heeres and Henny Hilgerdenaar, were then given the opportunity to ask critical questions.

“Higher Appeal”

After “the substantive procedure”, the jury deliberated on the finalists. The public could cast an advisory vote by means of a ballot paper for the start-up that in their view should proceed to the appeal. Start-ups PAVA and SymbioMatter, both with diverse, socially responsible solutions, competed with each other. In their final pitch, they were each given three additional minutes to convince the jury, because why did their business case have to win? The tension was palpable!

PAVA wins See you in Court 2024 with (elderly) care solution

Around 5:45 PM there was white smoke. The jury ruled: PAVA is the winner of See you in Court 2024. Femke Delissen, the representative of PAVA, turned out to be a born litigator and managed to convince the jury of the potential of PAVA, a software company that uses smart WiFi sensors that monitor the health and safety of elderly people in nursing and home care in a non-invasive manner, while guaranteeing their privacy. Their technology uses AI to detect and analyze movements, sleep patterns and falls, allowing healthcare providers to intervene more timely. This reduces pressure on healthcare providers and frees them up to provide sustainable, specialist care and attention on a personal level. PAVA will use the prize package to further develop and implement their business model.

See you in Court is an initiative of BIM, Banning Advocaten and Tilaa.
